It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Dorothea Stewart Gilbert of Lillington, North Carolina, who passed away on December 23, 2023, at the age of 96, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Latta Stewart and Florrie Stewart; her former husband Joseph Hales; her husband Marshall Lee Gilbert; and her stepson John Gilbert.
She is survived by: her stepchildren, Phil Gilbert of Atlanta, Alsey Gilbert of Clayton and Jackie G. Deal of Winston-Salem; her stepgrandchildren, Cole Gilbert, Kevin Gilbert, Bruce Gilbert, Stephen Deal, Hannah Deal, Britt Gilbert, John Gilbert and Lisa Gilbert; and her close friends, Sandra Howard and Dorothy Mullins-Hare. She is also survived by her many cousins and dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Buies Creek First Baptist Church building fund or to one or more of the three scholarships Dorothea established at Campbell University – English Department, School of Divinity, or Lundy-Fetterman School of Business.
