He was loved and cherished by many people including: his sister Dorothy "Dot" Smith; his children, Ernest McDougald (Verter) of Bunnlevel, NC, Johnnie Byrd of Pennsylvania and Sharon Spearman of New Jersey; his siblings, James Byrd (Barbara) of Ohio, Ernest Harris (Sarah) of Lillington, NC, Dot and Barbara McNeill of Dunn, NC; and his uncle Calvin Smith (Doris) of Indiana.
