He was predeceased by: his parents, Woodrow Wilson Chewning and Edna Baker Chewning; his wife Margaret Williams Chewning; his daughter Angie Gibson; and his sister Peggy Rodgers.
He is survived by: his children, Rhonda Chewning Durden (Tim) of Lilesville and Ronald W. "Ronnie" Chewning, Jr. of Wadesboro; his grandson James Gibson (Rosie) of Fayetteville; and his sister Shelby Chewning Curtis of Chesterfield, SC..
