He was predeceased by: his parents, John Frank and Johnsie Ray Powell; and his siblings, Jerry Powell of Wadesboro, Bobby Powell, Faye Lisenby and Shirley Carpenter.
He is survived by: his wife Rosa Lee Carpenter Powell; his children, John F. "Jeff" Powell III (Wendy) of Polkton, Phillip Todd Powell (Ann) of Ansonville and Stacey Lee Powell of Polkton; his grandchildren, Michelle Thomas (Richie), Ashley Smith (Nick), J. R. Powell (Christina), Cali Powell, Holden Powell, Kaitlynn Powell, Tucker Pearson, River Pearson and Carley Powell; his sister Edna Hill of Ansonville; and his sister-in-law Hannah Powell of Wadesboro.
