He is survived by: his wife Shirley Freeman; his son Vernon Douglas Freeman (Milinda Freeman); his granddaughter Courtney Danielle (Adam Aldridge) of Kinston; his stepson Wayne Potter; his stepgranddaughter Brittany Potter of Princeton; and his siblings, Linda Smith, Jessie Lee, Lloyd Ray and Dallas Freeman.
