He was predeceased by: his parents, James Oral Philyaw and Mary Ellen Coffey Philyaw. He is survived by: his sons, Jeremy Brent Philyaw of Lenoir and Terrell Dean Philyaw of Todd; his siblings, James Dale Philyaw (Sherry) of Texas, Jeff Philyaw (Gail) of Colletesville and Sandra P. Oliver (David) of Hudson; and his granddaughter Amberlyn Philyaw. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
