He was predeceased by: his parents, Lloyd L. Nichols and Mazie Powell Nichols; and his son Joel Paeton Nichols. He is survived by: his wife JoAnn Storie Nichols of Lenoir; his children, Lloyd Eugene "Buddy" Nichols II, Shannon William Nichols of Lenoir and Adonya Lee Powell of Lenoir; his brother Carl Leonard "Punch" Nichols of Morganton; his grandchildren, Megan Leigh Nichols, Matthew Paeton Nichols, Taylor Nichols Fristoe (James), Grayson William Nichols and Mazie Raye Wakefield; and his nephew Carl Douglas Nichols (Penny). He is also survived by 6 great-grandchildren.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Pisgah Baptist Church.
