He was predeceased by: his parents, Troy Cobb and Mae Griffin Cobb; his stepson Jimmy Boyd Brown; and his siblings, Nell Church, James Cobb and John Cobb.

He is survived by: his wife Jeanette Phillips Cobb; his daughter Janie B. Smart (Maxwell); his grandchildren, Ashley Kaczynski and Corey Smart; his great grandchildren, Jazmin B. Story and Noah Kaczynski; and his brother Thomas Cobb.
