She was predeceased by: her parent Rev. Summie Leory; her husband Dr. Frederick Thompson Jr.; and her children, Frederick Thompson III and Fredel Thompson Reighard. She is survived by: her children, Fredda Thompson Umphlett (Bill) of Raleigh and Franklin Leroy Thompson (Kerry) of Hickory; her grandchildren, Grace Findley, Thompsie Umphlett Pitt, Rachel Lominac, Corbett Jaziri, Freda Sigmon and Farrah Thompson; and also Freda. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, 1406 Harper Ave. NW, Lenoir, NC 28645.
