He was predeceased by: his parents, Victor Horton and Cora Harper Horton; his wife Millie "Bryd" Witherspoon Horton; his son Wayne Barnette Horton; and his granddaughters, Kayla Isbell and Kylie Bates.
He is survived by: his children, Cora H. Brown of Lenoir, Margaret H. Forney of Lenoir, Anthany H. Lipford of Lenoir, Sherman Eugene Horton of Lenoir and Wallace Elgin "Wally" Horton (Kimberly Witherspoon) of Lenoir; his sisters-in-law, Betty Witherspoon and Clara Mae Pearson; and his foster son Donald H. Banner. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins.
