He was predeceased by: his father John Anglus Ayers. He is survived by: his wife Jean Barlow Ayers; his daughter Shannon Ayers (David); his siblings, Joel Ray Ayers (Mary) and Susan Ayers Teague; his nieces, Tonya Severt (Jason) and Amanda Copeland (Matt); his nephew Brian Ayers (Jennifer); and his cousins, David Barlow (Linda), Kathy Barlow, Gail Bradshaw and Marty Fishman.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Amorem Hospice, 902 Kirkwood St., Lenoir, NC 28645.
