He is survived by: his wife Shirley Cole Payne; his children, Hilary Yates of Lenoir, Terri Canter (Earl) of Granite Falls and Jeffery Wilcox (Cathy) of Lenoir; his grandchildren, Brooke Hang (Chou), Johnny Rosales, Joshua Rosales, Joseph Rosales, Destiny Mcleod (Alex), Elijah Craddock, Serenity McCart, Dustin Yates and Katelyn Palinkas (Noah); his stepgrandchild Shannon Gragg; and his siblings, David Payne (Tammy) and Patricia Townsend (Grover). He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held on Friday, February 7th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Burke Memorial Park (2506 Burke Memorial Park Rd, Morganton, NC 28655).
