He was predeceased by: his parents, William Robert and Pansy Belle Smith; his wife Ruth Kirby Smith; and his brothers, Robert "Bob" Allen Smith and William Hillard Smith.
He is survived by: his children, Trevis Smith (Lynn) of Wilkesboro, NC and Tammy Smith of Louisa, KY; his granddaughter Stacey Degarmo (Nash) of Brookline, NH; his great grandchildren, Declan, Greta and Mae Degarmo of New Hampshire; and his siblings, Audrey Smith, Dale Smith, Sabra Haigler, Sandra Miller, Willard Guy Smith of Lenoir, NC, Penny Smith of Lexington, NC and Danny Smith of Charlotte, NC. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
