He was predeceased by: his father Earl A. Houk; his daughter Robin Houk; and his siblings, Elizabeth Craig, Cleta Comer, Rosalee Hawkins and Cecil Houk.
He is survived by: his wife Joan Triplett Houk; his children, C. A. "Butch" Houk (Regina) of Hudson and Susan H. Simmons (Barry) of Lenoir; his sister Ella Teeters of Granite Falls; his grandchildren, John Houk of Hudson, Kyle Houk of Troutman and Alex Simmons of Sunset Beach; and his great grandchild Aubrey Houk of Troutman.
