He was predeceased by: his parents, Vernon Powell and Annie Maye Powell; his wife Barbara Ann Pritchard Powell; his son Christopher Lee Powell; and his siblings, Vera Ayers, Mildred Van Dyke and Marion Powell.
He is survived by: his great grandchildren, Gus Whisnant, Braxton Williams, Abigail Hinson, Brantley, Kinley Triplett and Grant Bowman; and his close friend Betty Gaye Wilson. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care at 902 Kirkwood Street Lenoir, N C 28645.
