He was predeceased by: his father Russell Johnson; his brother Wesley; and his wife Susan Rivers Johnson. He is survived by: his close friend Carolyn J. Winkler of Lenoir, NC; his son William Russell; his grandchildren, Sonia and Alex of Sydney, Australia; his daughter Meghan Johnson Respess (Mele Tong) of Brooklyn, NY; and his sisters, Russellene Angel and Gloria Weitzel (John) of Greensboro, NC. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
