He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred William Abel, Sr. and Martha Childers Abel; his daughter Lisa Diane Abel; his granddaughter Kylee German; and his siblings, James "Whitey" Abel, Larry Abel and Norma Lindsay.
He is survived by: his wife Linda Cherry Abel; his children, Thomas Abel (Heather) of Lenoir and Sarah Abel German (Garron) of Lenoir; his grandchildren, Kade German, Pacey Abel and Morgan German; and his siblings, Steve Abel of Lenoir, Gary Abel of Lenoir, Elizabeth Abel of Lenoir, Darlene Abel of Lenoir, Karen Sadler of Virginia and Kathy Hall of Virginia. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
