He is survived by: his wife Janice Hopper Smith; his children, Alen Wayne Smith, Jr. (Melissa) of Lenoir, Lynn Jones (Timothy) of Hickory, Leigh Smith of Granite Falls and Amy Summerlin of Lenoir; and his siblings, Charles Smith (Vicki) of Lenoir, Michael Smith of Lenoir, Roger Smith of Lenoir and Debra Pease of Conover. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
