He was predeceased by: his parents, Taylor Preston and Clara Morris Simmons; and his siblings, Vernon Simmons, Preston Simmons, Fred Simmons, Margaret Perry, Mildred Gann, Virginia Housden, Betty Clark and Barbara Brewer.
He is survived by: his wife Elizabeth Shelton Simmons; his sons, Steven Simmons (Sandy), David Simmons (Rebecka) of Chesterfield, VA, Daniel Simmons (Vicky) of Midlothian, VA and Frederick Simmons (Tracy) of Chester, VA; his stepson Daniel Andrew Riggs of Leland, NC; and his sister Carol Simmons Dew of Monticello, NC. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 1 great great granddaughter.
