He was predeceased by: his father Gordon LeVan Simmons; his sister Betty Sevier Sholar; and his grandson AArron Batts Nelson. He is survived by: his wife Phyllis Henderson Simmons; his daughters, Christina Abigail "Abby" Batts-Nelson (William "Billy" Nelson), Amanda Simmons Hall (Kevin Hall), Trina Gayle Lewis and Chancey Nicole Maditz; his mother Betty Simmons (Hall); and his siblings, Gordon "Sam" Simmons (Tammy) of Leland and Joyce Patrick (Ronnie) of Bolton, NC.. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
