John was 6'4" with an athletic build and was a solid golfer and enjoyed playing on courses all over the country, finally playing many of the courses in coastal North Carolina. He was a knowledgeable and successful gardener, woodworker, and could repair and fix most anything. John loved food and was a great cook. He left behind his own personal cookbook that will be put to good use. John was generally a quiet guy with a sly, dry sense of humor and quick wit. A fan of Groucho Marx, he might often incorporate a few lines from George Burns into a conversation. John was born into a very tight and close family, and maintained his love and ties to his brothers, sisters, and their children. He was successful and loving husband, married to Karen for 47 years. He was a loving and caring father, who always took time to be with his daughter Michelle and be supportive of her. He was a great and proud granddad, very loved by his grandchildren, Abby and Miles. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wilmington and Wells Sunday School. "And what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God." A Celebration of Life will be at 2pm Saturday, November 17, 2018, at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Matt Cook officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of John to the First Baptist Church, Wilmington or Pancreatic Cancer Research. Services Memorial Service.
