It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Marie Carroll Winstead of Leasburg, North Carolina, born in Danville, Virginia, who passed away on May 9, 2023, at the age of 82, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Claude Swanson Carroll, Sr. and Elsie McDowell Carroll; her husband Samuel Harvey Winstead; her siblings, Claude Swanson Carroll, Jr. and Kay C. Ewaldz (David); and her brother-in-law Fred Burt.
She is survived by: her children, John Clay "Jay" Long, III of Providence, NC and Jessica Anne Long Anderson of Bunnlevel, NC; her stepdaughter Linda Winstead Janke of Knightdale, NC; her sisters, Lois C. Easler (Thomas) of Blacksburg, SC and Shirley C. Burt of Fuquay-Varina, NC; and her grandchildren, Caleb James Anderson and Lauren Tyler Anderson.
