He was predeceased by: his parents, John Lane Idol, Sr. and Annie Lula Watson Idol. He is survived by: his wife Margaret Bruce Riggs Idol of Leasburg; his children, Margaret Sonya Idol Hoxie (Craig) of Leasburg and James McDowell Idol, Jr. of Cary; his brothers, Jack Idol, John Idol of Boone, Bill Idol of Deep Gap, Joe Idol of Deep Gap and Steve Idol of Deep Gap; and his grandchildren, Tara, Jason, Jenny, Kristen, Annie and David. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren.
