He was predeceased by: his parents, Don Martin Pennington, Sr. and Margaret Covey Pennington; his son Skyler Pennington; his wife Patsy Meade Pennington; his children, Donnie Pennington, Alice Gilliam and Memorie Hoover; and his sisters, Robin Shuford (Gary) of Boiling Springs and Lynn Vincent (Jay) of Boone.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul Baptist Church, 337 Hull Road, Casar, NC 28020.
