He was predeceased by: his parents, Wade Elmore and Ruby Lee Richardson Shumate; and his brother Dale Shumate. He is survived by: his wife Patsy Hunt Shumate; his children, Lance Ray Shumate of Kingsport, TN and Heather Rae Greene (Kevin) of Deep Gap; his brother Reid Shumate of North Wilkesboro; his grandchildren, Taylor Raye Cribley and Maddox Ray Greene; and his great grandchild Ezra Ray Cribley. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
