With profound sadness, we say goodbye to Vernon Ray Shumate of Laurel Springs, North Carolina, whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of many. Vernon Ray left this world on September 24, 2024 at the age of 80, leaving a void in the lives of so many people. You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Wade Elmore and Ruby Lee Richardson Shumate; and his brother Dale Shumate. He is survived by: his wife Patsy Hunt Shumate; his children, Lance Ray Shumate of Kingsport, TN and Heather Rae Greene (Kevin) of Deep Gap; his brother Reid Shumate of North Wilkesboro; his grandchildren, Taylor Raye Cribley and Maddox Ray Greene; and his great grandchild Ezra Ray Cribley. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Viewing was held on Monday, September 30th 2024 from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Ashelawn Memorial Chapel (3470 U. S. Hwy 221 N, Jefferson, NC 28640). A funeral service was held on Monday, September 30th 2024 at 6:00 PM at the same location. A graveside service was held on Tuesday, October 1st 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Mountlawn Memorial Park (196 Fan Key Rd, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659).
