He was predeceased by: his siblings, George Preston Chewning and Bobbie Stikeleather. He is survived by: his parents, George Tom Chewning and Lundy Harwood Chewning; his wife Sadie C. Chewning; his children, James E. Chewning, Jr (Linda), Patricia Keener (Rex), Joyce Daugherty (David) and Michael Chewning; his grandchildren, Michelle Fisher, Jamie Chewning (Rebecca), Alan Keener (April), Ryan Keener (Lauren), Chase Daugherty (Nichole), James Daugherty (Kaitlyn), Ashlyn Chewning and Kaitlyn Chewning; his great grandchildren, Anna Keener, Laney Keener, Luke Keener and Elliot Chewning; and his sister Sue Wilson (Hank).
