He was predeceased by: his parents, William James Burney and Eltos Gamble Burney; and his sister Mary Ila Shook. He is survived by: his wife Mary Katherine Cobb Burney; his daughter Katherine Caroline Burney Wilson of Hallsboro, NC; his brother James Lee Burney of Chapel Hill, NC; and his grandchildren, Brynnan Chase Wilson, Drayton Yates Wilson and Harper Mary Wilson.
