He is survived by: his children, Joseph Carey Benton (Amanda) of Ivanhoe and Sharon Janet Benton Lyne (Jeff) of Mooresville; his siblings, Martin Benton of Whiteville and Bertie B. Lanehart of Whiteville; and his grandchildren, Kinsey Lyne, Natalie Lyne, Olivia Lyne, Adam Lyne, Emily Benton, Elizabeth Benton and Sarah Benton.
