He was predeceased by: his parents, Jessie Hubert Smith and Mary Elizabeth Randall Smith; his wife Elma Thornton Smith; his son Gary Dean Smith; and his brothers, Mitchell, Aulton and Hyziser.
He is survived by: his children, Deborah Scaperoth (Daniel), Beverly Crippen (Steven), Barbara Lewis and Donna Womack (Barry); his daughter-in-law Adair Roberts Smith; and his siblings, Donnie and Barry. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
