He was predeceased by: his father Johnathan Steadman Whitley, Sr.; his siblings, Kenneth Whitley, Wilma Ann Seabrook, Agnes Bartlett and William Whitley; and his siblings-in-law, Edward Thigpen and Betty K. Thigpen.
He is survived by: his wife Kay Thigpen Whitley; his son Johnathan Edward Whitley (Brooke); his grandsons, Spencer Keith Corey and John Michael Whitley; and his siblings-in-law, Carol Whitley, Roy Bartlett and Darrell Thigpen (Phyllis Harrison). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
