He was predeceased by: his parents, Gordon Reece Howell and Hortense Dobbs Howell; his wife Irene Smith Howell; his grandchildren, Sean Webb and Braxton Reeves; and his brothers, Donald W. Howell, George Howell and Jack Howell.
He is survived by: his children, Gail Sims, Jerry Howell (Susie), Joseph Howell, Valentine Melton (Larry) and David Howell; his grandchildren, Adrian Reeves-Burke of Fuller Reeves, IV, Jody Howell, Morgan Hester Howell, Jessika Michelle Howell, Kamryn Brianna Howell, Jolan Sidney Howell, Ashley Daniel Gray, Lindsey Howell Walkoviak and Keely Irene Gray; and his sister-in-law Joyce Howell. He is also survived by 11 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren.
