He was predeceased by: his parents, George Washington Powell and Nettie Sawyer Powell; his wife Sandra Thomas Powell; his daughter Tonya Faye Powell; and his sister Josephine Lynn Powell.
He is survived by: his daughter Caryn Hommel (Greg); his great grandchildren, Amelia Mae Hommel and Eliora Wray Hommel; his sisters-in-law, Gayla King (CD) and Judy Thacker (Bill); and his grandson Matthew Powell Hommel. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Triangle. '.
