He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Esther Mae Williams and Clyde Jones; his adoptive mother Lula Williams Burgess (Samuel Burgess); his wife Eunice Phoebe Moore; and his children, Elizabeth Burgess (Liz) of Raleigh, NC, Holloway Burgess of New York, NY and Laurie Marie Burgess of San Francisco, CA. He was also cherished by five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

“I first met Dr. Burgess and Eunice in 1996 following hurricanes Fran and Floyd. He enlisted my help in cleaning up his property on Leslie Drive here in Raleigh. Peter and Eunice personified the grace and pureness of God’s living word. They each gave me strength and hope during a very difficult time of my life - reminding me that “He walks with us”, wherever we go. So wonderful to reconnect with you, Peter, in September. So saddened it will be the last on this earth.”
