He was predeceased by: his parents, Owen Ruffin Whitley and Lessie Wall Whitley; and his siblings, Margaret Oglesby, Velma Snipes, Arthelia Whitley, Thera Chapin, Bob Whitley, Ervin Whitley and Lawrence Whitley.
He is survived by: his significant other Peggy Sue Buffaloe Whitley; his children, Beverly W. Cratch (Ken) of Washington, NC, Carol W. Dean (Mickey) of Wendell, Avery Whitley of Knightdale and Amy W. Chandler (Jack) of Lincolnton; his grandchildren, Amber W. Fowler (James) of Knightdale, Brent Whitley (Colby) of Knightdale, Kaiti Chandler (Alex Royster) of Lincolnton and Daniel Whitley (Tiffany Duty) of Zebulon; his great grandchildren, Jaimee Fowler, Sadie Fowler, Owen Fowler, Kendylle Whitley, Faith Whitley and Avery Jo Whitley; and his siblings, Billy Whitley (Ruby Jean) of Greensboro, Carolyn Shropshire of Raleigh and Sandra Massey of Knightdale. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
