He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Merritt A. Hooper, Sr. and Goldie Baker Hooper; his sons, Merritt A. Hooper III of Martins Point and Douglas D. Hooper of Elizabeth City; his grandchild Owen B. Hooper of Tampa, FL; and his pets, Missy and Cole.
