He was predeceased by: his parents, James Simmons and Betty Simmons. He is survived by: his wife Carol L. Simmons; his children, Tony L. Thompson of Jacksonville, FL, Norman Thompson of Stafford, VA and Natalie Booker of Woodbridge, VA; and his sister Monnie Mae Hargett of Kinston, NC. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

Visitation was held on Saturday, March 15th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at the Trinity Funeral Service Memorial Chapel (1276 US-258, Kinston, NC 28504). A celebration of life was held on Saturday, March 15th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Memorial Chapel of Trinity Funeral Service (1276 US-258, Kinston, NC 28504). A burial was held on Saturday, March 15th 2025 at the Pinelawn Memorial Park (4488 US-70, Kinston, NC 28504).
