He was predeceased by: his parents, Leslie Smith and Helen Smith; and his brother Craig Smith. He is survived by: his wife Kay Smith; his children, Scarlett Tyndall (David) and Russ Smith (Bheng); his grandchild Heaven Lane Tyndall; his sisters, Brenda Barron, Teresa Kennedy (Mike) and Amanda Scott; his nephew Matthew Kennedy; and his nieces, Leslie Brooke Kennedy and Addison Scott.

A funeral service was held on Wednesday, April 9th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Howard - Carter Funeral Service (1608 W Vernon Ave, Kinston, NC 28504). A reception was held on Wednesday, April 9th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Howard & Carter Funeral Home (1608 W Vernon Ave, Kinston, NC 28504). A burial was held on Thursday, April 10th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Jessie Howard Family Cemetery.
