She was predeceased by: her parents, Sterling Gates and Lee Gates; her husband Dr. Frederick Payne Dale, Sr.; and her siblings, Lee Sanders and Sterling Gates.
She is survived by: her daughter Laura Powell (Bill) of Farmville; her grandchildren, Payne Dale Jr. of Kinston, Mark Dale (Trish) of Statesville, Gray Powell (Virginia) of Greenville, Needham Cheely (Mandria) of Greenville, Catherine Jarvis, Gracen Morris of Raleigh, Ann Sterling Dale of Dallas and Garrison Dale; and her great grandchildren, Violet, Sophie Powell, Gabriella, Pippa Jarvis, Isabella and Gates Cheely. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, and extended family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the First Baptist Church (Children's Ministry) or to Meredith College (Nutrition Health and Human Performance).
