He is survived by: his wife Patricia Cox; his children, Vernon Kornegay of La Grange, NC, Sharon Cox, Melba Cox of Kinston, Jacqueline Crawford, Joyce Cox of Virginia and Towarren DeVaughn of Winterville; and his siblings, Emmitt Cox of Kinston, Milton Cox of Maryland and Claudean Scott of Tuscarora, NC. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
