He was predeceased by: his parents, Marvin Duke and Margaret Taylor Duke; and his brother David Rodney "Rod" Duke. He is survived by: his wife Kathryn Davis Duke (Kathy); his nephew Adam Duke (Kate); his nephew Matthew Kinney (Michelle); his great-nieces and great-nephews, Elliott, Ivy and Ada of Raleigh; his nieces, Meredith Duke of Lenoir and Sara Watson (Aaron); his great-nephews, Gavin and Simon; his great-niece Jillian of Washington; his niece Bobbi Hageman (Leo); his great-niece Josephine of Apex; his niece Angie Payne; his great-nephews, Mason and Miles of Key West; his sisters-in-law, Addie "AJ" Duke and Jane Wells Harrison; his sister Melissa; his brother-in-law Phillip Kinney; his niece Wanda Conley; and also Wells of Winston Salem.
