He was predeceased by: his parents, Beatrice May Holmes and Herbert Holmes; and his sister Eileen. He is survived by: his wife Sylvia L. Holmes of Davidson, NC; his children, Christopher M. Holmes of Bluffton, SC and Lindsay Holmes Meakin (Charles); his grandson Charles James Meakin IV of Atlanta, GA; and his daughters, Margaret E. Meakin of Charlotte, NC and Caroline E. W. Holmes of Washington, D. C..
