She was predeceased by: her husband Jack Gray Hester; her parents, Ed Dowell and Edna Sink Dowell; and her sisters, Cleo Dowell Owens and Gladys Boger.

She is survived by: her sons, Jay Garland Hester (Phyllis) of Newport News, VA and David Gray Hester (Norma Jane Davis) of Lewisville, NC; and her grandchildren, Michael Wayne Hester, Daniel Gray Hester (Laura), Jason Eugene Hester (Diane), Brian Wayne Hester (Laura) and Niel Andrew Hester. She is also survived by thirteen great grandchildren.
