He was predeceased by: his parents, Elbert Smith and Virginia Whanger Smith; and his brothers, L. C. Smith, Doug Smith and Leighton Smith.
He is survived by: his wife Karen Smith; his children, Jimmy Smith (Jenn) and Jessie Sheffield (Graham); his grandchildren, Lexi, Fynn and Logan; and his sister-in-law Regina Smith of Iron Gate, VA..
