She was predeceased by: her parents, Harvey Nelson and Doskey N. Nelson; her grandson Tom Cowden; and her siblings, Margie McKaughn, Nettie Jane Nelson, Micky Nelson, Glenn Nelson, Carl Nelson and Richard Nelson.

She is survived by: her son Nelson Cowden (Christi) of Yadkinville, NC; her grandchildren, Ivy Cowden and Ben Cowden; and her siblings, Mildred Weavil, Roger Nelson and Ralph Nelson (Faye).
