He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Edward Johnston, Sr. and Mary Daywalt Johnston. He is survived by: his former wife Betty Harris Johnston; his wife Betsy; his son Joey (Cindy); and his grandchildren, Ashlyn, Alexander and Morgan. He is also survived by cousins and many friends.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that a memorial donation be sent to the SPCA of the Triad at P.O. Box 4461 Greensboro, NC 27404.
