He was predeceased by: his parents, Odell McKinley Welborn and Hazell Belle Royall Welborn; his son Paul Welborn; and his siblings, James Welborn and Frankie Langston.

He is survived by: his wife Nancy Jean McCloughan Welborn; his children, John Frederick Welborn, Jr., Danny Welborn (Teresa) and Kathy Holloway (Tim); and his sisters, Jeanette Almond (Gary) and Wanda Roscoe. He is also survived by two grandsons; five granddaughters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
