He is survived by: his children, Leigh McElroy Jones (Cliff) of Oak Ridge, Whitney Grier McElroy (Donta Love) of Burlington, Dana Shropshire Rutledge (William) of Kernersville, Jessica Hendren Miller (Kenneth) of Leland and Jason Herron Hendren (Deborah) of Durham. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren.
