She was predeceased by: her parents, Samuel Etheridge and Essie Mae Newman Pope; her husband Rudolph Matthews; and her great grandchild Thomas Wright Lanier. She is survived by: her daughters, Jean M. Hughes of Warsaw, Dorothy M. Williams of Kenansville, Deborah M. Lanier of Chinquapin, Sandra M. Brinson of Chinquapin and Connie M. Thornburg of Magnolia. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren.
