She was predeceased by: her husband Berry Edward "Boweevil" Holmes; her great grandchild Jacob Paradiso, Jr.; her parents, Carson Holmes and Bertha "Tom" Holmes; and her siblings, Joseph Ray Holmes, Jackie Carson Holmes and Gloria Carol H. Griffin.
She is survived by: her children, Dean (Donna Holmes), Rose (Billy Grant), Donnell Holmes of Kinston and Joan (Ronny Cottle); her sister Gerlene H. Kennedy of Wallace; her grandchildren, Jeremy Holmes of Goldsboro, Jennifer Beddingfield (Jason) of Pink Hill, Dr. Victoria Cottle Paradiso (Jacob) of Burgaw and Sallie Grant of Albertson; and her great grandchildren, Braxton and Paisley Beddingfield. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
