He was predeceased by: his father Oscar "Melvin" Herring, Sr.; his brother Tony Lee Herring; and his brother-in-law Douglas Bettenhausen. He is survived by: his wife Estelle "Bunny" Herring; his daughters, Danna Herring Westerbeek (Kraig) and Toni Herring DeVane (Clay); his granddaughters, Kyndall Westerbeek Marshburn (Carries), Kari (Brady), Kelli, Karsyn Westerbeek, Cate, Claire and Carter DeVane; his mother Wilma Martin Herring; his siblings, Oscar "Mel" Melvin Herring, Jr. (Lori) and Sandra Herring Bettenhausen; his nephew Jonathan Bettenhausen; his niece Allie Bettenhausen; his sons, Dean (Valerie) and Chris Hardison (Stacy); and his grandchildren, Evan (Maria), Ashlynn (Ryan), Eli and Eve Bradlee Hardison.
